|
| |
Don Estes, retired Natchez City Cemetery Director, has conducted extensive research into individuals buried at our cemetery. He has "dug up" facts, fictions, legends and lore that he is willing to share in these fascinating stories. Don has compiled his research into a very informative and entertaining book: Legends of the Natchez City Cemetery.
Legends of the Natchez City Cemetery is loaded with pictures and stories of the fabulously rich as well as the lowly unfortunate long-ago citizens of Natchez. You will find an above ground burial…in a rocking chair, a grave with steps into it, the last Spanish Military Commandant in Natchez and a free man of color who owned as many as 15 slaves. Then there is the “Yellow Duchess”…buried with a fortune in gold? These and many more stories abound in the Legends of the Natchez City Cemetery.
With 11 chapters, over 150 outstanding photos (many in color), and over 100 stories, Legends of the Natchez City Cemetery offers a view of Natchez that has not been told before.
